The Commission's progress report on Turkey - which
was published on the 6th of November - verified the prevalent opinion of the
last months about the imperative need for the reforms’ continuance from the
Erdogan’s government, as the implementation of structural changes was uneven
and has slowed down since 2005. According to analysts in Turkey, the needed
continuance of the intense reform programme will be a politically difficult and
hard process for the new moderate Islamic government (AKP), because it is not
expected to have the major support of the Turkish public opinion and the
Kemalist elite.
